Pharmacist voted local health group chairman
Chris Martin, a community pharmacist from St Davids,
Pembrokeshire, has been appointed chairman of Pembrokeshire Local Health
Group, the third pharmacist in Wales to achieve such a position.
Mr Martin told The Journal that the new position
was paid on the basis of two days work a week. He expected to remain
chairman until April 2003 when the LHG would be replaced by a new local
health board as part of the abolition of health authorities in Wales.
He said that his role as chairman was to take a
strategic overview of the development of the LHG and of primary care in
the area. He believed that there was a need to take a partnership approach
with colleagues at the local hospital trust and with social services.
He said that this was helped by Pembrokeshire having only one LHG, one
trust, one council and one general practice commissioning group.
As chairman, Mr Martin has to chair both the full
16-member LHG board and the five-member executive committee.
