Chauvin Pharmaceuticals has launched Virgan (ganciclovir 0.15 per cent) eye gel for the treatment of acute herpetic keratitis (net price, 5g tube £10.64).

SPC changes

Neoclarityn new indication

The licensed indications for Schering-Plough’s Neoclarityn (desloratadine) 5mg tablets have been extended. Neoclarityn is now additionally licensed for the relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Meningitec injection

The summary of product characteristics for Meningitec (meningococcal group C conjugate vaccine) has been updated. The paragraph regarding symptoms of meningism and the need for clinical alertness to the possibility of coincidental meningitis has been moved from the undesirable effects section to the special warnings and precautions for use section. Adverse events are now listed under two headings: “Adverse reactions from clinical trials” and “adverse reactions from post-marketing surveillance (for all age groups)”. The frequencies of post-marketing adverse events are now stated. The following have been added to the undesirable effects section:

  • paraesthesia
  • hypoaesthesia
  • hypotonia
  • arthralgia
  • facial oedema
  • bronchospasm
  • angioedema
  • urticaria
  • pruritus

Nicorette new packaging

The packaging of Pharmacia’s Nicorette (nicotine) range has been redesigned (as shown below). The following Nicorette products have now been granted general sale list status: chewing gum 4mg, mint flavour, pack sizes 15, 30 and 105, and citrus and original flavours, pack sizes 30, 105; patches 5mg, 10mg and 15mg, pack size 7.
