Society summary

Anglia regional committee revived

The Anglia region of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has been re-established after nine years of inactivity.

The region covers 11 of the Society’s branches — Barking and Havering, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Colchester, East Metropolitan, Enfield, Great Yarmouth and Waveney, Ipswich, North Metropolitan, Norwich, and South Essex). The region’s revival is a spin-off from the series of “Shaping the future” meetings held during the first six months of the year to discuss how the branches and regions could be positioned to support the Society’s modernisation agenda. The Society decided to hold meetings for pharmacists in each of its English regions, and in May a team of local branch officers came together to run a meeting for pharmacists in the Anglia meeting. Following that meeting, they went on to form the first regional committee since the region became inactive in 1992.

Alan Nathan, a member of the Society’s Council, who was present at the “Shaping the future” meeting held in May, said: “The new regional committee is made up of a group of extremely enthusiastic people. They are determined that the committee will play an important role in helping to carry forward the Society’s plans for pharmacy within the Anglia region.

“The Society’s ‘Shaping the future’ process for the branches and regions provided the impetus and focus for reviving the regional committee and I am extremely encouraged by this development.”

The newly revived region was represented at the meeting of the Society’s Council on 7 and 8 August, when Peter Schofield, regional chairman, joined other observers from the branches and regions.

Welcoming the guests, the President, Marshall Davies, said that it was most encouraging that the Anglia region had been revitalised. Mr Schofield had played a large part in that. On behalf of the Society the President congratulated the region, which he said was a great credit to Mr Schofield and his colleagues.

The next meeting of the Anglia region will take place on Monday 10 September at the Duxford Lodge Hotel, Duxford, near Cambridge, from 7.45 to 9.45pm. Further details can be obtained from Katie Smith, Anglia Regional Secretary, on 01473 704431.
