Refurbishment boosts pharmacy

An independent Devon pharmacy has seen a 15-20 per cent increase in sales after being refurbished.

The pharmacy, in Torquay Road, Paignton, has seen the increase within a month of being converted to the Vantage concept pharmacy format focusing on products that reflect pharmacy, health and a healthy lifestyle and removing products that do not.

Staff appearance and training has also been integrated into the new design. Pharmacy assistants, in newly designed uniforms, are receiving not only product training but also sales training.

The size of the counter has been reduced substantially to encourage staff to meet customers and the pharmacy medicines display has been moved out from behind the counter to a side wall so that customers can get closer to them.

The dispensary was moved to the back of the store to extend sales space and to create a consultation area for customers. A new ceiling and floor were fitted to create an atmosphere and ambience designed to welcome customers and to encourage them to stay longer in the pharmacy.

“The decision to improve our service to local customers has been a successful one,” says Chris Babbs, the pharmacy manager. “Although we pride ourselves on being a traditional community pharmacy, the new concept store is opening up new opportunities bringing us into the 21st century.”
