Societys new guidance on administration and control of medicines in care homesThe Royal Pharmaceutical Society has published a new booklet giving guidance for those involved with the administration and control of medicines in residential homes, nursing homes and childrens homes. The 32-page, A5-size publication, entitled The administration and control of medicines in care homes, updates and replaces the Societys two earlier documents, Pharmaceutical services to nursing homes (1990) and The administration and control of medicines in residential and childrens homes (1994). The new publication takes into account the Care Standards Act 2000 and the Care Standards (Scotland) Act 2000, which provide for the regulation of care services by national social care councils for England, Wales and Scotland. The new councils will set national standards in each of the main areas of social care, and these standards will be underpinned by regulations under the Acts. The Societys guidance will be referenced in the national standards. The new booklet costs £6, including postage and packaging. Copies can be obtained from Lorraine Fearon, Practice Division, Royal Pharmaceutical Society, 1 Lambeth High Street, London SE1 7JN (tel 020 7572 2409). |
