The Journal (2 letters)Journal contentFrom Mr R. B. A. Johns, MRPharmS So distinguished a pharmacist as Bruce Rhodes needs no support from me but I entirely agree with his comments on the new layout of The Journal (PJ, 8 September, p322). His letter also prompted me to study the current issue more assiduously than usual, and I noticed that the classified advertisements commence just before the centre pages. In fact, advertisements account for 33 sides (including the two inside covers and outer back) plus a sprinkling of smaller advertisements among the text, as against 24 sides of reading matter. It would be interesting to know how this ratio compares with that of other professional journals and whether, as I imagine, our journal is not merely self-financing but profitable. R. B. A. Johns Changes to the layoutFrom Mr A. G. M. Madge, FRPharmS May I concur with Bruce Rhodess comments (PJ, 8 September, p322) on positioning in our treasured PJ. Change is inevitable if progress is to be made, but some landmarks always stand out as a guide, for thinking and debate. Hallowed by many years of contributions which have helped to make the PJ a world leader, professionally, scientifically and as a source of knowledge it also offers some light reading. The PJ is not some lofty edifice but serves warmly members of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Mervyn Madge |
