Novartis a discredit to the industry
Novartis has brought discredit on, and reduced confidence
in, the pharmaceutical industry, the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice
Authority has ruled.
The PMCPA gave its ruling after considering a complaint
from a general practitioner that Novartis employees had changed patients
prescriptions for statins to the companys Lescol (fluvastatin) product
and from sartans to the Novartis product Diovan (valsartan) without his
knowledge.
The doctor had given permission for an audit of
his statin prescribing. The Novartis employees involved in the audit believed
that they had also been given permission to change the prescriptions.
