Welsh Assembly consults on clinical governance
A strategy for developing a consistent approach to
improving quality across the National Health Service in Wales was issued
for consultation on 1 October.
Clinical governance developing a strategic
approach identifies a number of areas of importance, including:
- Better partnership with patients and the public
- Learning lessons and sharing good practice
- Ensuring staff support through continuous professional
development
Welsh health minister Jane Hutt said: The
aim of clinical governance is to ensure that the clinical care, patients
experiences and outcomes provided by organisations are of the highest
quality. A support package for clinical governance includes:
- £500,000 for patient advocacy and support
- £500,000 for the development of core skills
related to clinical governance
- £330,000 for subscriptions to knowledge
bases on the Health of Wales Information System website
- £400,000 a year for three years for education
and awareness information management
- £18m over three years to support clinical
governance in GP surgeries, including the upgrading of all GP computer
systems
