The JournalUnsubstantiated accusationsFrom Mr B. Shooter, MRPharmS The letter from “Disillusioned locum” (PJ, 6 October, p462) was damning to all of us who own average independent community pharmacies. To write or publish such an unsubstantiated and anonymous letter is, in my opinion, unforgivable. It reduces The Journal to the level of a sensationalist tabloid. If its content were true the letter should have been addressed or referred to the pharmacist who hired the locum, and if the locum had sufficient evidence, then on to the Societys professional standards directorate. I take a similar course of action when my locum agency provides me with an unsatis- factory locum. This ensures that the agency does not use that locum again and, if need be, the locum is advised by one of the Societys inspectors to modify his or her practice. As opposed to your correspondent, I cannot speak highly enough of my local inspectors who have always guided me with just the right combination of rigour and sympathy. Barry Shooter |
