Boots denies rumours of hospital drug procurement take-over
Boots the Chemists has denied that it is in talks with
the Government about taking over drug procurement services in hospitals.
The newspaper Sunday Business reported on
7 October that the company was discussing the possibility of taking over
the purchase and distribution of drugs in hospitals, potentially leading
to the opening of Boots stores on National Health Service premises. A
Boots spokesman, Francis Thomas, told The Journal on 9 October
that the story was not true.
He said that the Department of Health frequently
talked to pharmacy organisations about a number of issues but that Boots
was not in specific talks about drug procurement in hospitals.
