Our final package of reports from the Conference in Glasgow
starts with tackling cancer, one of its main themes.
Sessions held on 24, 25 and 26 September looked at the pharmacists
role in cancer care, recent developments in the search for new cancer
treatments, including compounds sourced from natural products, and

For the third year running, the British Pharmaceutical
Conference included lectures on complementary medicine. This years
presentations focused on complementary medicines, particularly mistletoe
extract, for patients with cancer

Dr Carmel Hughes gave the Chemist & Druggist
practice research award lecture on 24 September. The lecture detailed
her work as a Harkness Fellow in the United States, looking at the

Coronary heart disease
(Managing the challenge of heart disease)
Tackling cardiovascular disease was the Conference theme
for the day on 25 September. The role of pharmacists in CHD was
discussed in a Conference symposium and a session for hospital pharmacists.

Science medal lecture
This years Conference Science Medal was awarded to Dr
Bruno Hancock. His lecture, given on 24 September, looked at the
