The JournalStatutory Committee summariesFrom Mr M. Crane, MRPharmS It is not surprising that Dr Appelbe missed the April, May and June summaries as these were in Official Notices which were tucked away at the back of The Journal. I must confess that I only became aware of them by re-examining the back numbers. The improved format of The Journal in July should make it easier to find these summaries which are now prepared by the Secretary of the Statutory Committee which in my opinion is a great improvement on having to rely on prelimimary news reports. My only experience of the transcript was that of a hearing conducted on 11 October 2000, the decision was approved by the Chairman on the 19 October 2000 which seems remarkably efficient. I understand from previous correspondence with the Editor that the reports are then prepared by a trusted freelance writer and then checked by the Chairman of the Statutory Committee. I appreciate the care taken in the final published report but I am still uneasy that it takes nearly six months for publication. It would be helpful if the numbering system used on the Notice of Inquiry could also be used on the summary to aid identification of the problem. Otherwise it requires a wait up to six months for the publication of the full report. Malcolm Crane |
