AAH pharmacy technician of the year
The winner of the AAH hospital pharmacy technician
of the year award 2001 is Julie Thomas, pharmacy technician, Colchester
General Hospital.
Ms Thomas's paper, "An investigation into the feasibility
of a ward-based clinical pharmacy technician" has won her a trip to the
annual American Society of Health-System Pharmacists mid-year clinical
meeting in New Orleans in December. Speaking at the awards lunch, hosted
by AAH, on 23 October, Dr Jim Smith, Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for
England, said that he had been very impressed by the benefits spelled
out in Ms Thomas's work.
Jeremy Poole, AAH hospital service director, said
that the standard of entries for 2001 had been so high that awards were
also made to two runners-up: Susan Leslie, Roodlands Hospital, Haddington,
for her work on the vaccine supply chain in Scotland, and Michelle Rowe,
Christie Hospital, Manchester, for her work on the role of a clinical
technician in the multidisciplinary care of oncology patients.
