Inspectors' presentations for preregistration traineesEach year, the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's professional standards inspectors organise a series of half-day presentations for preregistration trainees. The aim is to explain the inspector's own role and that of the Society's Professional Standards Directorate, so that trainees can gain an understanding of the support available to pharmacists from those sources. The informal sessions are open to all trainees, whether in community or hospital practice or in academia or industry during split preregistration years. Trainees may attend the presentation of their own choice. There is no need to reserve a place in advance, other than for the sessions in Birmingham. There is no charge for attending the presentations, but any travel costs will have to be met by the trainee or employer. This season's presentations take place at 30 venues across Britain, with a choice of dates in London and Birmingham (see here). Most will take place early in the new year, but the session in Crewe is scheduled for 26 November 2001. Details of the presentations are to be sent to preregistration trainees and tutors with the Society's next preregistration bulletin, which will be mailed in December. An accompanying letter expresses the hope that as many trainees as possible will be able to take time away from their place of employment to meet an inspector and other trainees. The mailing will include information on the precise location of each venue, with details of railway stations and bus routes and advice on road travel and parking. (For the Crewe presentation, which takes place before the mailing, this information is on the Society's website; see below.) For most venues the mailing will also give a telephone number for further information about the site (eg, access for the disabled). The information that will be included with the mailing can already be downloaded ( as a 30K PDF* file) from the preregistration training page of the Society's website (www.rpsgb.org.uk/education). Any queries about the presentations should be addressed to the individual inspectors, who can be contacted in writing through the Professional Standards Directorate.
