Registration information goes onlineA new page on the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's website provides answers to common questions about the registration of pharmacists and pharmacy premises. It also allows pharmacists and pharmacy owners to print out forms for paying their retention fees by direct debit. In addition, pharmacy owners can print forms for registering a new pharmacy, transferring the ownership of a pharmacy or nominating a superintendent pharmacist. The new page can be found in the "About the Society" area of the website (www.rpsgb.org.uk/society). In a section on how to pay retention fees for 2002, the new page says that direct debit is the preferred method for both members' and premises retention fees, although it explains that for members the direct debit choice is currently only available for the full fee and the overseas membership fees. As well as printing out direct debit forms, visitors to the site can obtain a leaflet giving details of other acceptable methods of payment. Another leaflet explains what to do about a lost or stolen membership certificate and how to replace a certificate in the event of damage or a change of name, or if one wants to switch from A3 size to A4 or vice versa. It also gives information about certificate lamination (A4 size only) and framing. The page goes on to explain how to notify the Society of a change of address, how to report the death of a member, how to retire from the Register, how to apply for restoration to the Register, and how to seek assistance if unable to register because of financial hardship. It also gives information on how to acquire a copy of a lost retention fee receipt, how to upgrade one's fee (for those who paid a reduced fee at the beginning of the fee year but have subsequently become liable for a higher fee), and how to obtain a letter of good standing if seeking to register overseas. For pharmacy owners, as well as providing forms for registering premises and nominating a superintendent pharmacist, the page offers print-outs of leaflets explaining how to complete these forms, plus general information about the registration of premises, the transfer of ownership of premises and the responsibilities of a pharmacy proprietor or superintendent pharmacist. The page currently includes an "October 2001 bulletin" aimed at newly registered pharmacists. It reminds them that the registration fee they paid on becoming members does not constitute a retention fee. It advises them that the annual retention fees for all members becomes due on 1 January 2002 and recommends that they pay by direct debit to avoid the risk of erasure and penalty fees. Members without access to the internet should address registration queries to the Registration Section, Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, 1 Lambeth High Street, London, SE1 5JL (tel 020 7572 2322; fax 020 7582 4279; e-mail registration@rpsgb.org.uk). |
