Parliamentary group calls for Cancer Act

A national Cancer Act, to put funding for cancer research and treatment on a statutory basis, as in the United States, has been called for by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cancer. Dr Brian Gibson, chairman of the group, said on 31 October: "A national cancer act is needed to ensure that vital funding for cancer research and treatment is no longer dependent on the ups and downs of politics ... Legislation would enable researchers and clinicians to plan ahead and patients will benefit as a result of the extra investment."
