NHS University may offer degree coursesPlans to create a National Health Service University include offering courses resulting in the award of degrees, according to the university's prospectus. The prospectus says that all training offered through the university will attract credits. These will initially be accredited by other universities but a Royal Charter will eventually be sought to allow the NHS University to award them itself. Credits will support progress from National Vocational Qualifications up to degree level and will be recorded in the personal records of NHS staff. The prospectus says that the NHS University will provide a core curriculum and a range of foundation, first-line and basic training programmes. Areas where the university might be involved include induction courses for new staff, patient care training, implementation of national service frameworks, national graduate training schemes and project management. Copies of the prospectus can be obtained from the Department of Health's website. |
