SPC changes

Topamax tablets and capsules

The summary of product characteristics for Topamax (topiramate) tablets and Topamax Sprinkle capsules has been amended. A paragraph has been added to the special warnings and precautions for use section and refers to acute myopia with secondary angle-closure glaucoma being reported rarely in children and adults receiving topiramate. Symptoms typically occur within one month of the start of treatment and include decreased visual acuity and/or ocular pain. Treatment includes discontinuation of topiramate as rapidly as is clinically feasible and appropriate measures to reduce intraocular pressure.

Discontinued products

Pevaryl lotion

Pevaryl (econazole nitrate) 1 per cent lotion, pack size 30ml, is being discontinued with immediate effect (Janssen-Cilag). Pevaryl cream, pack size 30g, remains available.

Xatral SR 5mg tablets

Xatral SR (alfuzosin hydrochloride) 5mg tablets will be discontinued from the end of November (Sanofi-Synthelabo).

Supply problems

Oxybutynin tablets

Oxybutynin 2.5mg and 5mg tablets are being temporarily withdrawn (Pharmacia). The supply of oxybutynin 3mg is not affected.
