Earlier deadline for applications for BPC practice research medalThe British Pharmaceutical Conference practice research adjudicating panel has introduced a new timetable for the conference practice research medal. The closing date for nominations and applications for the 2002 medal is 31 December three months earlier than in previous years (see Official Notice, p662). After reviewing applications in February 2002, the panel will invite short-listed candidates to submit a fuller application by the end of May 2002. The successful applicant will be notified in June. Another change is that next year's winner will be "required", rather than "invited", to give a lecture on his or her research. The lecture will be given during the 2002 Conference, which takes place in Manchester from 23 to 25 September, 2002. The medal, sponsored by Chemist & Druggist, is intended to recognise an individual aged up to 45 years who has made a significant contribution to the field of pharmacy practice research and has the potential to become a leader in the field. The winner receives a cheque for £1,000. This year's medal was won by Dr Carmel Hughes (senior lecturer, Queen's University of Belfast), who gave a presentation on her work during the British Pharmaceutical Conference in Glasgow (PJ, 13 October, p516). Previous winners were Judy Cantrill (University of Manchester) in 2000 and Dr Felicity Smith (School of Pharmacy, University of London) in 1999. |
