Britain to fight Europe over animal medicines
Britain is to fight a European Commission proposal
to make all veterinary medicines for food-producing animals available
only on prescription. The Government has instructed officials involved
in negotiations over the proposal to try to make it reflect national differences
in the distribution of animal medicines.
The reclassification proposal is a component part
of a much wider set of EC proposals to change procedures for authorising
and controlling both human and veterinary medicines in the European Union.
