The JournalMore sensationalism, pleaseFrom Mr G. P. Wilkes, MRPharmS Kay Roberts (PJ, 3 November, p649) is critical of an article in The Journal which she claims sensationalises the reclassification of cannabis. Although it is important that the facts printed in an article are accurate and relevant, a bit of sensationalism helps get the stories over. I want to see more sensationalism in The Journal. I have consulted various collegues on this matter and we are all in agreement that The Journal could be significantly improved if there were more "exciting" news stories. For instance a pharmacy that was maliciously set on fire in our area last month was reported in the local newspaper. I would like to see stories like these appearing in The Journal. At my store we managed to catch some hit and run shoplifters with over £200 worth of goods on their way out of the store. It made a great anecdote down the pub and I think it would make an interesting read for other pharmacists. A bit more drama or even a gossip column would probably encourage more pharmacists to read The Journal as well. It is about time we all stopped being so stuffy and we might start enjoying reading about pharmacy matters. Guy Wilkes |

We do carry stories from local
newspapers (see PJ, 10 March, p303), but have to depend on
pharmacists telling us themselves about their derring-do because we cannot
keep track of the excitement all over the country. |
