Community pharmacy

Initiatives are pie in the sky

From Mr J. P. Smith, MRPharmS

I was gratified to read that a few of our colleagues have managed to obtain funding for such laudable initiatives as those mentioned by Irene Gummerson (PJ, 17 November, p710).

What I would like to know is who will do all the dispensing when we are all out in the community visiting, counselling, and advising in order to get extra remuneration just to stay at the level we are at now?

Do the powers that be not realise that most of community pharmacy, from what I can see, is hanging on by its fingernails, and, until there is more money for the core activity of dispensing, for most of us all these "initiatives" are just pie in the sky.

J Paul Smith
Louth, Lincolnshire
