Wales budgets for beta interferon

The National Assembly for Wales has set aside £1.7m a year for the next three years to pay for beta interferon for patients with relapsing recurring multiple sclerosis.

During a debate on the Assembly's budget for 2002–05, held on 22 November, Edwina Hart (Minister for Finance, Local Government and Communities) said that a risk-sharing scheme for beta interferon was under discussion with the Department of Health. Money had been set aside in the budget to assist with funding such a scheme.
