Nurse prescribing formulary extended

Nurse prescribers are to be able to prescribe a wider range of medicines, including many prescription medicines, on the National Health Service from April.

The MCA has published a list of prescription medicines that appropriately trained nurses are to be allowed to prescribe, in addition to all pharmacy and general sale list medicines. Amendments to the Prescription Only Medicines (Human Use) Order 1997 and to NHS Regulations will be required before the decision takes force.

The list of medicines to be prescribed by nurse prescribers can be found on the internet (PDF* 15K).
