Cidex disinfectant to be withdrawn

Cidex (glutaraldehyde), a disinfecting agent widely used in hospitals for disinfecting medical instruments, is being withdrawn from the market. The withdrawal follows concerns raised by the Health and Safety Executive that its use can cause skin problems and asthma in health care staff exposed to the substance.

Cidex will not be available from 1 May 2002.
