Generics (UK) products

Generics (UK) has launched the following products:

• Famotidine 40mg tablets, net price 28, £23.10

• Isosorbide mononitrate (Monigen XL) 60mg tablets, net price 28, £11.14

• Minocycline tablets, net price 28, 50mg £7.65, 100mg £11.45

Domperidone tablets

Lagap has introduced domperidone 10mg tablets to its range (net price 30, £2.53; 100, £8.40).

Aspirin in Alpharma livery

Dispersible aspirin 75mg tablets (pack size 28) are now being supplied by Alpharma in its new corporate livery.

Prosure supplementary feed

Prosure, a 1.25kcal/ml high protein complete balanced liquid supplement enriched with omega-3 fatty acids and oxidants has been launched by Abbott Laboratories. The product is approved by the Avisory Committee on Borderline Substances for the dietary management of patients with cancer-induced weight loss. Recommended intake is two 240ml tetrapaks a day. The product is available in vanilla, orange and banana flavours. (net price 240ml x 27, £72.90).

Discontinued products

Catapres Perlongets

Catapres Perlongets (clonidine) 250µg modified release capsules will be discontinued in February (Boehringer Ingelheim). Catapres 100µg and 300µg tablets remain available. Patients should be transferred to tablets at the same total daily dosage, but given in three divided doses. Blood pressure should be monitored after transfer.

Zinacef and Becotide

Zinacef (cefuroxime sodium) 1.5g infusion and Becotide (beclomethasone dipropionate) 50µg metered dose inhaler (80 dose pack) have been discontinued (GlaxoSmithKline). All GSK stocks are exhausted. Customers with difficulties in disposing of residual stock should contact GSK on 0800 221441.

Supply problems

Anturan tablets

Anturan (sulfinpyrazone) 200mg tablets will be unavailable for about three months because of problems with the supply of the active ingredient. The 100mg tablets are still available (Novartis Pharmaceuticals UK and Sovereign Medical). Details from Novartis on 01276 698370.

Fenbid capsules

Fenbid (ibuprofen) Spansule 300mg modified release capsules (120 pack) will be back in stock from 18 February (Goldshield Pharmaceuticals).
