Clare Mackie to head new WHO partnerships centre

Clare Mackie: more collaborative work

Professor Clare Mackie has been appointed head of a new World Health Organization centre for partnerships in medicines for health at The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.

The school of pharmacy at Robert Gordon was formerly a WHO collaborating centre on pharmaceutical care and curriculum development. The new centre is independent of the school of pharmacy but will be situated adjacent to it.

Professor Mackie said that her new post would allow her reduce her teaching commitments so as to undertake more research and collaborative work with other centres. She is to visit Professor Linda Strand in Minnesota, United States, and Professor Strand will visit Aberdeen later this year.

Professor Mackie is also involved in writing a new WHO book on good pharmaceutical practice, in collaboration with authors in South Africa and Switzerland. This is to be published in 28 countries. It will seek to develop pharmacists' clinical skills so that essential drug programmes can be put into action. In its former role as a WHO centre, the Aberdeen school undertook work on the safe distribution and storage of medicines in tropical countries.
