Eight more teaching PCTs announced

Eight teaching primary care trusts, which provide a possible new career opportunity for pharmacists, have been announced by the Department of Health. These are in addition to three trusts announced in March 2001.

Clive Jackson, director of the National Health Service Medicines Resource Centre, said that teaching PCTs were a potentially important development for pharmacy and that he hopes to be able to produce a list of potential opportunities for pharmacy in the near future. Currently, the development of teaching PCTs is intended to be led by nurses and doctors, but Mr Jackson says that the Department is happy for pharmacists to be involved.
