Prescription ProductsComposition: Telithromycin 400mg. Presentation: Film-coated tablets. Class: Ketolide antibiotic. Indications: In patients aged 18 years and older, telithromycin is indicated for the treatment of the following infections: mild or moderate community-acquired pneumonia; acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis; acute sinusitis; tonsillitis or pharyngitis caused by Group A beta haemolytic streptococci, as an alternative when beta-lactam antibiotics are not appropriate. In patients aged 12 to 18 years of age, telithromycin is indicated for the treatment of tonsillitis or pharyngitis caused by Group A beta haemo-lytic streptococci, as an alternative when beta-lactam antibiotics are not appropriate. Major cautions and contra-indications: Concomitant administration of any of the following with telithromycin is contraindicated: cisapride, ergot alkaloid derivatives, pimozide, astemizole and terfenadine. Telithromycin should not be used concomitantly with simvastatin, atorvastatin or lovastatin. Telithromycin is contraindicated in patients with a history of congenital or family history of long QT syndrome (if not excluded by electrocardiogram) and in patients with known acquired QT interval prolongation. Composition: Tenofovir disoproxil (as fumarate) 245mg. Presentation: Film-coated tablets. Class: Nucleotide analogue. Indications: For use in combination with other antiretroviral agents in HIV-infected patients over 18 years of age experiencing virological failure. Major cautions and contra-indications: Tenofovir disoproxil is contraindicated in severe renal impairment. Caution should be exercised when: treating elderly patients; administering regimens containing nucleoside analogues and tenofovir disoproxil; administering tenofovir disoproxil to patients with mild to moderate renal insufficiency. Concomitant use of tenofovir disoproxil with medicinal products which are secreted by the same renal transporter (eg, cisofovir) is not recommended. Tenofovir disoproxil must be taken with food and should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the foetus. It is recommended that mothers being treated with tenofovir disoproxil do not breast-feed their infants. Side effects: Very common adverse events (>10 per cent) are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and hypophosphataemia; a common event (>1 per cent, <10 per cent) is flatulence. Legal category: POM.
