Applicants drop but not student numbers

Fewer young people want to train as pharmacists, according to figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Nevertheless, more people are taking pharmacy places at United Kingdom pharmacy schools.

UCAS statistics show that 3,234 people applied to the 16 UK schools of pharmacy in 2000 and 1,929 of them subsequently accepted places.

This year, there were 13.3 per cent fewer applicants (2,804), from whom an extra 7.2 per cent (2,068) were offered and accepted places.
