More older champions neededChampions are needed to provide local leadership in implementing the National Service Framework for Older People, especially in tackling age discrimination and providing positive patient experiences, Gordon Lishman, director general of Age Concern said at a conference held by the Department of Health and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry in London on 6 March. The NSF for Older People calls for every health and social care community to have at least two champions, one an elected council member or non executive director and one clinical or practice champion. In addition, each patient forum should have a patient champion. At the conference, Health Minister Jacqui Smith announced the publication of the Government's information strategy to enable older people and their carers get better information about National Health Service and social care services and also the launch of a champions' website.
