Lloyds pilots check by technicians in three Welsh stores

Lloydspharmacy has successfully piloted a scheme for accredited checking technicians in stores in Cardiff, Bridgend and Narberth. As a result, Lloyds expects to have accredited checking technicians in 43 of its stores from May.

As part of the scheme, pharmacists carry out legal and clinical checks on prescriptions. Items are then dispensed by pharmacy technicians and checked against prescriptions for technical accuracy and packed ready for collection by accredited checking technicians. Patients are counselled on their medication by pharmacists.

The pilot scheme was run in partnership with the Welsh Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education.
