South London LPC set to deliver 10,000 letters to Number 10A pharmacy awareness week organised by Lambeth Southwark and Lewisham local pharmaceutical committee (PJ, 2 February, p125) has been successful, according to its organisers. As a result, over 10,000 letters signed by customers supporting the campaign are expected to be delivered to the Prime Minister. Ash Soni, a member of the LPC, told the local pharmaceutical committee representatives' conference on 4 March that all 174 pharmacies in the area had taken part between 25 February and 3 March. Customers had been asked to sign a letter in the form of a mock invoice saying that they had received a service at no charge from their pharmacist and that they were concerned that current remuneration systems might mean these services would be withdrawn. So far, over 3,000 letters had been returned from 26 pharmacies and that the target of between 10,000 and 20,000 letters was on course to be met. Negotiations are under way to hand these over. Other LPCs have expressed interest in holding similar awareness weeks and the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee has been asked to co-ordinate this. |
