Society represented on herbal regulation working groupProfessor Bill Dawson has been appointed to represent the Royal Pharmaceutical Society on a Department of Health working group on the regulation of herbal practitioners. The working group is charged with producing a report setting out options for achieving successful self-regulation of the herbal practitioners' profession. The group will make recommendations as part of a wider Government consultation leading to legislation. This consultation will also result in recommendations for the regulation of herbal medicines under the Medicines Act 1968. Professor Dawson is a member and past chairman of the Society's Science Committee and also chairs the Society's working group on complementary medicine. He is a former member of the Society's Council. The working group includes lay members and representatives of herbal practitioners' interests. The group is to meet monthly during 2002. |
