A series of talks on the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's programme for modernising the regulation of the profession has been attracting lively and constructive debate, the Society says.

In presentations to Society branches and other groups of pharmacists, members of Council and staff have been giving pharmacists an opportunity to learn about the work in hand and explore the possible ways forward, as set out in the Modernisation Steering Group's consultation document published with The Journal of 16 February as a centre pull-out.

The Society's Deputy Secretary, Philip Green, who directs the modernisation programme, said: "This is a crucial time for the profession and it is important that pharmacists have a clear understanding of the complex issues in question. Our communications programme aims to help explain and explore the roles and responsibilities of a modern health regulator and prepare pharmacists for the changes ahead."

Society branches or other groups who would like a speaker on the modernisation programme should contact Amanda King at the Society's headquarters (tel 0202 7572 2333).
