Intermediate care money delays meetingAn announcement of new funding for care of older people last week has led to the postponement of a weekend school for pharmacists about older people and intermediate care. The Department of Health announced funding of £66m on 6 March to help health and social care teams prevent lengthy hospital stays. Initially, money will be spent on extra intermediate care beds. Hemant Patel, organiser of the weekend school, said that the funding would improve the transfer of patients between hospital and community. "We thought it provided an important opportunity for community pharmacists to make a contribution," he said. The speakers at the event, previously arranged for this weekend, agreed to delay it to allow time for additional research to be conducted so that both strategic objectives and specific examples of work being carried out in the area can be discussed. The event will now be held on the weekend of 6–7 April. Further details are available from Mr Patel at hemant1@btinternet.com. See also Future events |
