Leicester branch pharmacists start defence of motor race title
Two senior figures from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Leicestershire and Rutland branch are about to start their defence of a motor racing championship won last year at the first attempt. In his first season of motor racing, branch chairman David Upton (chief pharmacist for the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust) won the 2001 National Jaguar XJS Challenge for unmodified cars, driving under the banner of CAMRx Jaguar Racing. The CAMRx team "patron" is former branch chairman Rajni Hindocha, managing director of the CAMRx community pharmacy consortium. Additional support was provided by Eldon Laboratories (part of the UniChem group).
In the challenge's nine races, Mr Upton scored five wins, two second places, a third and a fourth to clinch the championship driving a car bought for only £1,500. This year the championship has been upgraded to include 12 races at well known circuits. The CAMRx team begins its title defence at Silverstone on 16 March. |
