Bradford spin-off opens new gel plant

Advanced Gel Technology (AGT), a spin-off company from the school of pharmacy at Bradford University, has officially opened a new production plant at Listerhills science park, adjacent to the university.

AGT was formed in 1999 by Dr Donald Eagland and Dr Nicholas Crowther, research group leaders at the school of pharmacy, to capitalise on a water-based hydrogel they developed. The gel, which can absorb many liquids and can support a variety of living cells and bacteria, has been used in a number of techniques related to extracting and transporting oil.
