Insulin infusion versus injectionsResearchers conclude that the small improvement in glycaemic control seen with insulin infusion therapy compared with injection therapy would reduce the risk of retinopathy in patients with type 1 diabetes by about 25 per cent. However, they consider that infusion therapy should be reserved for patients who experience unpredicatable hypoglycaemia or marked increases in morning blood glucose levels despite the use of optimised injection regimens (BMJ 2002;324:705). |
