New HQ security system

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society is about to begin the full-time operation of a new security entry system at its headquarters in Lambeth. The system comes into effect on Tuesday 2 April, following a period of testing and commissioning.

All headquarters staff have been issued with personal security cards bearing their names and a photograph. To enter the building, or to operate internal doors also controlled by the security system, the card must be held close to a card reader positioned next to the door. Staff will be required to display their cards prominently at all times while in the building. Council members have been provided with similar cards.

Other visitors to the building will be able to gain entry only after announcing themselves via an intercom system. Reception staff will issue them with lapel badges labelled with words such as "Member", "Contractor" or "Visitor" as appropriate. They will then be collected from the reception area and escorted around the building.

Special arrangements will apply to visitors attending meetings in the building's Conference Hall.
