Zyban safety update

Following guidance on the use of smoking cessation therapies by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence last week, the Medicines Control Agency has issued a safety update for bupropion (Zyban). The MCA says that up to 8 April 2002, a total of 7,472 suspected adverse reactions have been reported via the yellow card scheme in the UK.

Since the last safety update (PJ, 26 January, p86), one report of a suspected adverse reaction with a fatal outcome has been received bringing the total to 58.
