HRTLink between vascular calcification and bone resorptionFrom Professor R. Corder, MRPharmS I noted with interest your recent news item highlighting that hormone replacement therapy reduces arterial calcification (PJ, 13 April, p488). Although I have not read the paper you cited, I would like to bring to the attention of your readership the close link between vascular calcification and bone resorption.1 Indeed, the observations by Dr Julie Cox and colleagues of increased mammary vessel calcification in patients not receiving HRT may also be interpreted as indicating those patients who are suffering the greatest degree of osteoporosis.
