Abbott wins Queen's Award for international trade

Abbott Laboratories Ltd has won its second Queen's Award for Enterprise in the international trade category (formerly export achievement) on the basis of continuous achievement.

The award reflects Abbott's 20 per cent compound growth over the past five years. The company's manufacturing plant at Queensborough, Kent, now produces medicines for more than 75 countries and over the past six years, Abbott has developed new markets in the former Soviet Union and South America.

This year, 903 companies sought an award. Eighteen companies from the medical and pharmaceutical sector were among the 131 winners. The Female Health Company (UK) Plc, manufacturer of Femidom, won its first award for international trade.

The winners were announced on 21 April, the Queen's personal birthday. The Queen's Award for Enterprise is now in its 36th year. Further details are available at www.queensawards.org.uk.
