Antibiotic surveillance data

Data from a surveillance programme, set up by AstraZeneca to monitor the susceptibility of bacteria to antibiotics, show that resistance to meropenem (Meronem) is not increasing. The five-year data, announced at the European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases in Milan this week, show that carbapenems were the most potent agents against a range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.
