Pharmacy2U starts ETP pilot for real

Pharmacy2U has processed its first real electronic prescriptions after its electronic transmission of prescriptions (ETP) pilot started at the end of March.

Daniel Lee, managing director of Pharmacy2U, told The Journal on 16 April that the first prescriptions were sent from the King Edward Road surgery in Northampton to Pharmacy2U for dispensing. The dispensed items were then sent by recorded delivery to patients who had previously enrolled for the trial. Details were then sent electronically to the Prescription Pricing Authority for payment in the normal way.

The ETP pilot is to be extended to 40 surgeries and 22 pharmacies. The pharmacies are owned by Co-op Healthcare and Pharmacy2U. Mr Lee said that the pilot would be aiming to process between 100,000 and 200,000 electronic prescriptions over the next six months ahead of its evaluation by a team appointed by the National Health Service.
