Society summary

Society's accounts for 2001 show surplus of £910,000

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society's accounts for 2001 show a surplus before tax of £910,000, compared with a pre-tax deficit of £880,000 in the previous year. The surplus after taxation was £480,000.

A summarised version of the accounts is included as a financial statement within the Society's annual review for 2001, copies of which are being distributed to all members of the Society with this week's Pharmaceutical Journal. The review highlights work undertaken by the Society in 2001 across its various areas of activity.

The annual review says that among the factors that affected the Society's financial position for 2001 was another excellent performance by the Society's publishing operation, which now accounts for half the Society's total income. Sales of Martindale exceeded expectations, royalties from Martindale electronic products grew, and classified advertising sales in The Pharmaceutical Journal continued to exceed 2000's sales.

Expenditure on the Council as a whole decreased by £60,000 compared to 2000.

The full accounts for 2001 were placed on the AGM page of the Society's website on 1 May so that members can view the figures before the annual general meeting. The AGM is to be held at the Society's headquarters on Wednesday 15 May, starting at 7.30pm.

Copies of the full accounts can also be obtained from the Society's finance administrator (tel 020 7572 2245).
