Patient education on inhalers provided by technicians

Training pharmacy technicians to educate patients about inhaler technique is a good way of making better use of skill mix. BARBARA MILLIKEN, United Hospitals Trust, Antrim, Northern Ireland, reported that a programme had been developed to train technicians in patient counselling.

To date, three technicians have completed the training programme and a further two have started it.

The new service increased technicians' level of job satisfaction and the hospital might explore other areas in which technicians could be trained to provide education to patients.
