Boehringer celebrates its 40th anniversary in UK

The Duke of York (centre) being shown some of the Boehringer products produced at Bracknell

The Duke of York, special representative for international trade and investment, was guest of honour at a ceremony in Bracknell, Berkshire, last week to mark the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Boehringer Ingelheim's subsidiary in the United Kingdom.

The family-owned pharmaceutical company established its UK arm in 1962. In 1968, the UK company moved to its present location at Bracknell. The site houses around 750 marketing, regulatory and clinical research staff together with the company's centre of excellence for the production of blow-fill-seal unit dose vials. The site can produce up to 420 million vials a year and these are traded in 62 countries. Over £13m has been invested in recent years in upgrading the factory and administrative buildings.

The Duke was welcomed by Dr Thomas Heil, UK managing director, together with members of the company's German board of management.
