PAGB director donates £5,000 to support model pharmacy projectThe Young Pharmacists Group has received a personal donation of £5,000 from Sheila Kelly, executive director, Proprietary Association of Great Britain, for its model pharmacy project. Mark Koziol, project manager for the YPG project, told pharmacists attending Nucare's annual convention held near Birmingham last weekend that the donation had been a tremendous shot in the arm. "People with vision understand the importance of this project," he added. The YPG started fund raising for the project in September last year (PJ, 1 September 2001, p281). It believes there is a need for a model pharmacy that can be used as an open-house practice laboratory for research projects. "There is still too often a cloak of secrecy because of commercial interests. It takes too long for data to be disseminated," Mr Koziol said. Ms Kelly told The Journal that she had donated to the project because she felt it deserved encouragement. "It needs people like me to put some kind of personal commitment behind it," she added. Mr Koziol explained that a model pharmacy could start to generate data which could then be passed to the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee. The data would then be used to support negotiations with the Government. Sue Sharpe, chief executive officer, PSNC, also speaking at the convention said: "The YPG project has enormous potential to deliver services that we can integrate into pharmacy." Offers of total sponsorship have been rejected by the YPG. |
