Four pharmacists designated as fellows of the Society
Four pharmacists have been designated as fellows of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society by the Society's panel of fellows. They are Brian Lazonby, Patricia Murray, Michael Pollard and Peter Tattersall. Brian Lazonby is an industrial pharmacist who registered in 1960. He has been managing director of Agrimin Ltd since 1977. He has also been technical and managing director of Chapman Freason, managing director and chairman of Nutrivet Ltd and managing director of Equiform Ltd. He was chairman of the British Distributors of Animal Medicines Association for three years. He has served on Pharmaceutical Society committees to produce the Veterinary Formulary and before that the British Veterinary Codex. He has acted as an external examiner for the Society's Diploma in Agricultural and Veterinary Pharmacy. Patricia Murray, who registered in 1976, has been chief pharmacist for Lothian Primary Care NHS Trust since 1999 and chairs the trust's medication error reporting review group. She was previously chief pharmacist for Edinburgh Healthcare NHS Trust. She has been a member of the Lothian Area Pharmaceutical Committee primary care subgroup since 1992 and secretary of the Lothian Area Drug and Therapeutics Committee since 1998, She has served on the Society's Scottish Executive since 1998. She has been a general committee member of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association since 1996 and chairman since 1998. Michael Pollard, who registered in 1971, has been chief pharmacist at Wrexham Maelor Hospital since 1981 and clinical director, pharmacy and clinical support services since 1997. He is immediate past chairman of the Welsh Chief Pharmacists Committee and a member of the Welsh Hospitals Drug Contract Committee. He served on the Welsh Assembly task and finish group on prescribing with NHS Wales. He is chairman of the Society's Clwyd branch. He was awarded the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists 1999 Medeva pharmacy silver medal for services to hospital pharmacy. Peter Tattersall, a community pharmacist who registered in 1956, was a partner in Birtwistles Chemists, Blackburn, for 20 years until 1991, when he handed over control of the company but remained a minor shareholder. He spent over 30 years in local pharmaceutical committee roles, including 13 years as secretary, and was instrumental in developing many of the health centre consortia pharmacies that have formed the backbone of the community pharmacy service locally for nearly 20 years. He is a member of the NHS Appeals panels. He is an active member of the Society's Blackburn branch, for which he has served in several offices. |
